Drop-in slots for education professionals

08 May 24 Drop-in slots for education professionals

Hello!

  • Do you work in an educational setting in Somerset?
  • Are you working alongside a child / young person who has experienced sexual abuse, sexual assault, sexual harassment, or rape?
  • Are you struggling to wade through the complexities of juggling a trauma-informed response with the huge pressure on educators?
  • Is the young person resistant to a referral to specialist services like Phoenix &/or not meeting criteria?

If so, please read on…

In recent times Phoenix has seen a growing need for specialist advice/guidance around specific experiences of Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA). We recognise that the pressure on educators and education systems is enormous, and we have been trying to think of ways we can offer our support to you. When young people are working alongside Phoenix, it is easy for us to work collaboratively to aid the young person’s recovery journey. Occasionally though, you might be aware of a young person being in recovery from CSA who isn’t waiting for our support or working alongside us, for several reasons.

If you have a young person in your setting that you are worried about or know is recovering from CSA and you would like to pick our brains and get a bit of advice or just have a listening ear, then we are opening a few virtual spaces to offer this support.

This is open to anyone in an educational setting, from the lunchtime supervisor to the ELSA, from the PFSA to the Headteacher (depending on how well utilised this is, we may look to expand this offer for other professionals in Somerset).

Our next session will be on Thursday 16th May (9-10:30am), and there will be a further session on Thursday 13th June (9-10:30am)

You can book your slot here (don’t forget you can also access our bitesize training modules at any time)

We will cap these at 5 practitioners per session to ensure there is space for everyone to chat things through and share their thoughts/advice. Please remember, this is a respectful and confidential space, and we expect all parties to carefully consider their responsibilities around confidentiality before, during and after the discussion. Please use a pseudonym if you are coming with a specific young person in mind.

The Somerset Phoenix Team are specialist practitioners who can make trauma-informed assessments & provide consultation and reflections in relation to Child Sexual Abuse and its impact on children, young people & their families.  However, safeguarding protocol and clinical recommendations remain the responsibility of the statutory services or lead professionals who represent the appropriate services. Our professional opinion would be limited to our interaction and engagement with the consultee/practitioner and must therefore not be taken as a sole point of judgment but considered in relation to all information available.
